Cloud computing is a flexible computing resources that enables on-demand delivery of IT resources over the Internet with pay-as-you-use pricing. Instead of operating, buying, owning, and maintaining physical data centres and servers, organisations can access technology services and associated deliverables. These include computing power, storage, and databases, on an as-needed basis from a cloud certified cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud.
Organisations can move from on-premise provision to their own data centre or private cloud

The four types of cloud computing are:
  • Public cloud is cloud computing that is delivered via the internet and shared across organizations.
  • Private cloud is cloud computing that is dedicated solely to your organization.
  • A hybrid cloud is an environment that uses both public and private clouds.
  • Multi Cloud is an environment that can encompass multiple public and private clouds

The services required to operate compute services in the cloud are:
On Premise to Cloud Migration Services
Cloud Management Services
Cloud and Services Monitoring

In the majority of cases when organisations need to move data between their on-premise environment to the cloud the process is relatively straight forward. The main Cloud providers have tools such as Amazons DMS and Snowball for migrating tasks although these solution are not real-time and can days to move the data from on-premise to the cloud.
However, complexities and difficulties arise when organisations need to migrate in Real-time without any down time due to the sensitivity of application or data stored. For this task, tools such as Oracle GoldenGate can help, however the tool is expensive and requires fully trained experts to use and operate. Even when issues are located, resolution time can be measured in days due to the need to ‘deep dive’ the problem and find where the issue lies.

The cloud migration steps checklist includes:
  • Establish your migration team and resources
  • Identify your level of cloud integration requirements.
  • Choose a public cloud provider or go multi-cloud.
  • Establish cloud KPIs. Establish performance metrics.
  • Identify migration components.
  • Perform any necessary refactoring.
  • Create a data migration plan.
  • Review application
  • resource allocation.

1PLACE is Intuitive dashboard that contains a wide range of Cloud Migration, Management and Monitoring functionality. The dashboard plugs into Oracle GoldenGate and enables less experienced and junior staff to manage complex migrations with an ability to stop and start the migration process, find issues, locate problems and fix them in close to real-time.
1Place leverages all of the powerful inbuilt functionality contained in Oracle GoldenGate and simplifies the user interaction, whilst dramatically increasing the speed of migrations. In recent tests 1Place reduced and AWS migration time for Oracle by 50%. This reduces time, resources and risk and delivers a complex migration twice as fast as current Cloud tools.

1Place is a subscription based licensed that can be downloaded from the Amazon Web Services marketplace as a cloud template. It is operated either through hourly charge if an organisation has their own GoldenGate License or can purchased as 12 Month subscription including access to GoldenGate.
1Place allow unlimited access to source and targets within a single geographical area however multiple licenses can be purchased across different time and availability zones.
License Models include:
BYOL – For GoldenGate Customers with an option to pay-as-you-go on AWS
12 Month Subscription – Includes GoldenGate
Migration Machine – Virtual or Physical Server including pre-configured 1Place and GoldenGate

This is dependent on the size and length of the migration and whether multiple projects will be in scope. Retail prices start at $4 per hour on Amazon with a discount for 12 Months subscription for BYOL. Non-GoldenGate users pricing will be dependent on size of the project and how much data needs to be moved and how quickly. 1Place support staff can provide quotations upon request.

One places piggy backs off the security contained within GoldenGate and delivers easily configurable end to end encryption to ensure any data transferred is at a high level of protection. Further information can be provided and shown in the standard 1Place demonstration.
